Registration for Students / Staff / Faculty

Only registered students/staff/faculty of IIT-Madras are eligible for treatment at the Institute Hospital. After registration, a hospital case record file (with the medical fitness form duly submitted) will be maintained.

No one is permitted to take the case record file/book outside the hospital.

How to avail the services?

OPD hours: The patient may collect the case record file/book at the hospital MRD counter during 8.15 am to 5:45 pm by producing a proof of identity. He/she can consult any available doctor at the O.P.D. with his/her case record file and must return the same at the hospital. Out patients seeking consultation of a medical officer will take their turn in the waiting queue in the patient’s waiting hall. Those who are in urgency may request the other waiting patients to by pass them. Those who require emergency treatment may contact the duty nurse at the duty room. Depending on the emergency a doctor will be called to attend the patient at the emergency room itself.

Non-OPD hours: The patient can contact the staff at the duty room for emergency treatment at any time. Depending on the nature of illness it will be attended immediately.

Eligibility for Medical Treatment

GROUP A : ELIGLIBLE FOR OUTPATIENT and INPATIENT TREATMENT (Forms to be submitted to administration, IIT-Madras)

  1. Registered students including preparatory course students. Faculty / Staff members.
  2. If their spouse is employed outside, they should submit “SPOUSE DECLARATION” form from their employer regarding their option for medical treatment to administration.
  3. Dependent sons or daughters who are unmarried and unemployed less than 25 years.
  4. Parents, if their monthly income is less than Rs.500/- p.m and dependent on the staff members.
  5. In case of women, either her parents or parents-in-law are eliglible provided their monthly income is less than Rs.500/- p.m and dependent on the staff member.

GROUP B : ELIGIBLE FOR OUTPATIENT TREATMENT ONLY

  1. Visting faculty and Project Staff
  2. Retired employees (only for consultation)

GROUP C : FIRST-AID / EMERGENCY TREATMENT ONLY (ON PAYMENT)

  1. Participants of seminars, workshop, conferences, etc.
  2. NMR staff
  3. Students and staff of Kendriya Vidyalaya (IIT) and Vanavani Metriculation School

MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENT

A. FACULTY / STAFF AND THEIR REGISTERED DEPENDENTS

IN-PATIENT TREATMENT

Medical insurance coverage for all in-patient treatment is available for faculty/staff and their registered dependents. For details please contact Administration-III.

IIT-Madras shall not take any responsibility for your nonpayment at the hospital or disallowance of your insurance claim in part or full.

OUT-PATIENT TREATMENT

A full-fledged Hospital Laboratory service run by M/s Sundaram Medical Foundation Hospital and a full-fledged Apollo Pharmacy are available at the hospital. Hence the reimbursement for laboratory tests done outside as part of out patient treatment with effect from 1st March 2004 and the drugs purchased outside with effect from 1st April 2004 are NOT REIMBURSED.

The tests/investigations/special consultations referred to outside centres by the Institute Hospital doctors or Consutants of that speciality are duly registered at the hospital office prior to the tests/investigatons. Only such cases are eligible for reimbursement.

Retired faculty / staff can purchase the prescribed drugs from the Apollo Pharmacy on payment.Non-allopathic treatment/medicines are not reimbursed.

As per CGHS norms, certain disallowed medicines/surgical materials/vaccinations/tests, etc.will not be reimbursed.

B. STUDENTS

IN-PATIENT TREATMENT

Medical insurance coverage for all in-patient treatment is available for all the students. For details please contact CCW office.

OUT-PATIENT TREATMENT

There is no reimbursement for out patient treatment for students. OPD services at our hospital, drugs issued at the Apollo pharmacy on prescription and tests done by SMF Lab. at our IIT hospital are FREE of charges to all eligible students.

As per CGHS norms, certain disallowed medicines/surgical materials/vaccinations/tests, etc.will not be reimbursed.

MIS-USE OF MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENT FACILITY

In case of mis-use of medical reimbursement facility, concerned employees of the Institute will be denied of all medical privileges for the next three years. If the misuse is repeated for the second time, concerned employee will lose the benefits of all medical facilities for the rest of his/her services at IIT Madras, notwithstanding any other action that may be initiated under the conduct rules of the Institute.

  2. Upto Rs.1,00,000 for treatment of diseases due to Traffic Accident anywhere in India.
  3. Upto Rs.3,00,000 for loss of life due to traffic accident anywhere.

For Serving Employees and their Dependents

    1. Coverage upto Rs.50,000/- + in a year floated among the family members.
    2. Covers pre-existing diseases treatment.
    3. Covers New born babies from day 1.
    4. Covers Maternity expenses.
    5. No initial waiting period.
    6. No upper age limit for claim.
    7. Corporate Buffer upto Rs.30,00,00/- (upto Rs.2,00,000/- per person for treatment of complicated illness).
    8. Cashless treatment facility.
    9. Treatment for congenital diseases and psychiatric disorders.

+ upto Rs.1.50 lakhs for the employees and their dependents who paid the co-payment of Rs.4,14,400/-

C. INSURANCE SCHEME FOR RETIRED STAFF AND THEIR SPOUSE

CLAIM FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY

 

CASHLESS FACILITY

  1. Faculty / Staff / Dependents / Students can avail in-patient treatment without upfront payment for in-patient treatment in some selected hospitals in Chennai city only or can claim the charges through reimbursement from the Insurance Company.
  2. How to avail this facility?
  3. All eligible policy holders will be issued identity card by the TPA.
  4. This entitles you for cashless treatment at a network of hospitals.
  5. All non-reimbursable bills and any bill over and above your eligible limit had to be paid directly at the concerned hospital itself.
  6. You need to verify your hospital bills and sign the Insurance claim form at the time of discharge from the hospital.
  7. IIT-Madras shall not take any responsibility for your non-payment at the hospital or disallowance of your insurance claim in part or full.

DIRECT REIMBURSEMENT CLAIM FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY

  1. In case of hospitals which do not accept cashless facility.
  2. Send Insurance Claim Form obtained from the treated hospital to the Insurance Company with all cash bills, prescriptions, discharge summary, laboratory reports (all in original duly countersigned by treating doctor with hospital seal).
  3. Eligibility letter – For students from Deans (students); For others from Administration-III.
  4. If all documents are in order the claim will be settled within 10 working days.
  5. IIT-Madras shall not take any responsibility for your non-payment at the hospital or disallowance of your insurance claim in part or full.
Medical Leave Certificates for Faculty / Staff

Medical leave is given on the decision of the treating (IIT) doctor only. One cannot demand for it. Institute Hospital issues MLC only on admission/casuality detention.

Due to unavoidable reasons, if a student gets treatment from an outside doctor, he/she has to get the medical leave certificate from the treating doctor and duly endorsed by the parent/guardian.
